Black Lacquer Japan Jewelry Music Box 7 3/4" x 5"x 5 1/2" Mt Fugi Abalone Shell
This is a black lacquer Japanese jewelry box with music box built inside that measures 7 3/4" x 5" x 5 1/2" tall. The box features hand painted scene on the top with Mt Fugi, pagodas, boat on water, trees, cherry blossoms, bridge over water. The colors are red and gold and white. The design is accented on the top with inlay abalone shell. The sides are painted all around...see my photos. There is a key on one side to wind the music box. It plays a lovely clear song in Asian style....but I don't know the tune. The box features a mirror inside lid, a drawer at the bottom full size, a pop-up compartment with two compartments and a full compartment below. There is no key but item opens without it. The velvet lining has a few stains. No cracks or chips to mirror. Hinges fine, no wiggle. There are some chips to the black lacquer as might be expected of a vintage item. The bottom is marked, "Japan". There are long feet on the bottom.
