Satsuma Japan Heritage Mint 4" Diameter Round Trinket Powder Box Gold Peacock
In the 1980s, for import to the USA, Satsuma made plates, cups, pen/pencil holders, vases, boxes etc. with colorful images of peacocks.  Looking at auctions and Google images, every item has crazing.  For some items, crazing may be a desired effect that is termed "crackle."  However, crazed pottery should not be used for serving food as the crazing may weaken the item and cause cracks that can harbor bacteria.
For this item, the crazing is under a smooth surface.  There are no chips, open cracks, or stains.  It's a nice, functional item but I'm downsizing.  I've own it since 1997.
