ATTENTION: This is a new description as of 10/30/22 after I was contacted by the gentleman who did the LCD mod to this tester years ago. The panel NOW works fine! It was just 2 shorted pins in the connector. Here's a clean, mostly or all recapped TT-1 tube tester with the TT-1A option. As you can see, this one has a LCD panel up on the TT-1A for reading plate current on the tube under test. It connects to the base unit by substituting the jack for the nearly useless AC socket in the upper corner of the TT-1. This test is great for matching tubes, but the readings you get will, of course, be lower than the tubes will produce when in service, because these testers all run at lower B+ voltages (so less plate current) than when in an actual amplifier.
Otherwise, the tester has also been recapped as you can see (pics 7-9). I did some tube testing on both units and it appears to be working OK in GM testing mode. Pic 1 shows a NOS 5881 (AKA 6L6) being tested and reading the 42.3 ma plate current.
The set up chart uses a rather silly ("proportional micromhos") scale. The 5881 calls for a 1,300 X3 =3,900 with the meter reading 2,200 X3 = 6,600, so maybe(?) its reading a bit high.
Pic 2 shows a 6JM6 tube up on the upper TT-1A. This tube being 1560 on the chart with a X4 multiplier so the 2,000 I was reading comes out to 8,000 on the 6JM6. (pic before the LCD was working)
I also did a 12AX7 that had a chart reading of 1040. It read 1250. I thought I had a pic of this but it wasn't there on the phone's camera when I just downloaded the test pics. Oh well!
No, I didn't go thru any other functions as it's a rather complicated tester and extra time for a new learning curve is always an issue. This tester has a built in calibrator which I didn't try. Pic 8 shows an extra transformer added to power the current reading LCD panel.
The cabinet is quite nice with light/minor wear. The top has some "scars" on if from being attacked over the years probably by other various moveable objects, so I painted the top with gloss "adheres to all" paint. It looks better now (scars/marks still there but minimized) and you might not even know it was painted if I didn't tell you, as the original pebbled surface comes right thru. The test deck looks great with just some really minor marks here and there.
Thanks to eBay's current draconian policies regarding returns, and parts changers, "renters", scammers, etc, we will no longer sell most items as working, but rather "officially" as parts, not working.
Also thanks to the same policies, we will no longer ship directly to any country other than the US. Any overseas buyers must buy thru the ebay shipping program where we ship only to a US address.
The purchaser, upon receipt, might not agree as to my assessment of condition, but that's what it was HERE in MY opinion and it's being sold officially for parts or not working. It may or may not work at all when you get it! NO REFUNDS or RETURNS! If you don't agree to these terms DON'T BUY IT.
