Description
Victorian Aesthetic Movement 12k Solid Gold Japonaise Fan Hinged Bracelet 6"After Japan opened for international trade in 1868, European artists, furniture designers, and jewelers were fascinated by the new designs reaching their shores. This c. 1875 bracelet, featuring a decorated fan on a cord, laid on top of what appear to be bamboo chutes, epitomizes the
Japanaise
style of the era
.
Whoever made this bracelet was at the very top of their craft. The detail is exquisite. 150 years later, this piece is in excellent condition with minimal wear, with a tight clasp and hinge.
Materials: This bracelet is not hallmarked. It was x-ray tested and found to be 12.5 to 13 karat solid gold. Having an "odd karat" gold is common on Victorian pieces, as jewelers would often alloy their own metals. The bracelet is made of rose gold and yellow gold. The top part is mostly yellow gold, with rose gold details on the fan. The gold is highly patinated, but could be polished bright by your jeweler.
Weight: 12.08 grams
Size: This bracelet is a small size, with an interior circumference of about 6 inches. It will fit a wrist of that size or smaller.
The fan measures 22.9mm across.
